Transfer
window closed (purchases) & Liverpool semi-final, plus other news
Well, we finally
bought players in the January window. They won’t be to everybody's liking. Nonetheless,
with such an injury list, will the cover be adequate? It is down to Ange to
make it work… while Levy takes the brunt if it doesn’t.
On the subject of
Levy, a Tottenham supporters’ group, ‘Change for Tottenham,’ has announced
plans for a massive protest on February 16, when we face Manchester United at
home.
This protest group
announced on social media that it is taking a stand against the club's current
direction.
The planned march is
at 2.45 pm before kick-off, revealing that they plan to march from the
crossroads of Lordship Lane and the Tottenham High Road to the West Stand. And
to be fair, you can’t blame them. We’ve had years of mediocre players coming
and going while trying to challenge for trophies and failing all under the
stewardship of Levy and ENIC. Now the fans feel it is time for a change… We/
they want somebody who cares about the club, not just making money for money’s
sake. We have a great stadium… or putting it another way… We have a Roll Royce stadium
with a Robin Reliant engine.
Now, back to the
transfer window: We made three signings in the winter transfer window: Forward
Mathys Tel, defender Kevin Danso, both on loan and goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
Mathys
Tel…
We signed 19-year-old
French forward Mathys Tel from Bayern Munich. He initially turned us down, but
after talks with Ange, Kane, and Dier, he changed his mind. Mathys Tel then
agreed to join us.
To help move the loan
purchase on, Daniel Levy travelled to Munich to engage in direct talks with
Tel, aiming to convey the vision and opportunities awaiting him at Tottenham
Hotspur; I presumed he said nothing about the protests or lack of trophies in
his picture of wealth building.
To cut a long story
short, we got him on loan with the possibility of him becoming a permanent
fixture in the summer. That will also depend on how we also finish, I imagine.
We know all about Kinsky
as he has already been here a month.
Kevin
Danso…
We signed Lens
defender on loan after hijacking Wolves' move for the Austria international. The
player wanted to move to north London.
He is on loan until
the end of the season, but we are obligated to make the move permanent in the
summer.
We’ve been in the
market for a new defender in this transfer window after Radu Dragusin picked up
an injury in the Europa League victory over Elfsborg. Cristian Romero is also
out injured, while Micky van de Ven has only just returned.
Kevin moved to
England at the age of six and began his early career with Reading and MK Dons.
After progressing
through FC Augsburg’s youth system, he made his first team debut in March 2017,
becoming the youngest-ever player to feature for the club in a league fixture.
He would make 44 senior appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga
outfit, scoring three times.
In August 2019, he
joined Southampton on a season-long loan, making 10 appearances for the Saints
in all competitions across the 2019/20 campaign.
Kevin returned to FC
Augsburg and then went straight out on loan to Fortuna Dusseldorf ahead of the
following season. He made 33 appearances, scoring twice.
He joined RC Lens in
August 2021, and an impressive second season saw him named in the Ligue 1 team
of the year after helping the French side to a second-place finish, which saw
them claim a spot in the 2023/24 UEFA Champions League group stage.
During his time with
RC Lens, Kevin made 128 appearances for the club in all competitions, finding
the net on four occasions.
He has 24 caps for
his country to date and represented Austria at Euro 2024.
So, those are the
players who will help rescue us from the dungeons of hell (relegation). Whether
they can or can’t, we’ll have to wait and see. I also hope that they escape
from the Tottenham curse of injuries.
We also purchased a
couple of youngsters who will go straight into the academy and be trained for
any future injury crises. Or they will probably go out on loan… or even be sold
for a huge Daniel Levy profit if they don’t make the grade.
As for
the Liverpool Cup game...
I hope that the new
recruits will be on the bench, ready and waiting to turn things around if
necessary.
I will predict 1-2 to
us… but settle for a draw.
Cup matches differ
from Premier League games, where the results can be all over the place. But so
long as those results are in our direction, then that will be good enough for
me.
Whatever the result
of that match, we then go straight into our FA Cup game against Villa at Villa
Park on Sunday. So… it will be the battle of the cups for the next couple of
days. These results will determine our season and maybe Ange’s future. As for
Levy… he will continue to be harassed in whatever way the supporters
feel necessary until he wakes up and smells the coffee.
Up the Spurs!
