Report: Arsenic 2 Spurs 1 (a poor game) & the Preview of our game against Everton (A)
What can I say? Not
only was the Tottenham support restive by our performance at the time, but even
Ange said it was below standards. The first half was appalling, with a bit of a
pick-up in the second half.
We scored first, a
Son goal. We scored second, but in our own net, and then they finished it off
to make it 2-1. It turned out to be a miserable night.
We are now 13th
in the League, eight points above the relegation zone. I can’t see us getting
into that relegation zone, as there are many worse clubs than us. However, that
doesn’t mean we can’t drop further. Hopefully, we can start pushing ourselves up
the league once we get our injured players back. I can’t also see Ange being
threatened with the sack – at the moment – as we are still in three
competitions.
The last time we won
in the league was on 15 December, when we beat Southampton away (by five
goals). Before that, we beat City away 4-0. The last home league game we won
was against Villa when we put four past them to their one. Yes, it's not
looking good in the League.
This Sunday, we’ve
got Everton away, and before anybody says, “Easy-peasy, Lemon squeezy”, they
are under new management and will be up for it.
Even though Kinsky let in two goals, this defeat was not down to him. We simply were not offering enough in attack apart from a brief first-half spell before Son's goal.
We certainly looked
to have a clear grievance with the corner that led to that crucial equaliser
when the ball came last off Trossard, but the decision went Arsenic and Old
Lace’s way.
The songs about Levy
reverberated around the stadium by the Tottenham faithful.
Ange Postecoglou
tried to motivate the team by introducing James Maddison and Brennan Johnson
for Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr at halftime, but it was all to no avail.
We left the ground dejected.
We witnessed one
incident when a Gooner jumped from the above tier onto the away section.
However, the stewards quickly grabbed him and escorted him to the police (it
took four Stewards to hold him).
On the way back to
our cars, we were caught amongst the Gooners screaming, “What do you think of
Tottenham… shit… what do you think of shit… Tottenham.”
Mel and I popped into
a newsagent to get a drink when ahead of us, another Gooner was singing the
little ditty about Spurs and shit. He then turned to us… we had po-faces… where
Mel said, we are “Spurs,” to which I nodded. Fair play to him. He responded
well, made a few nice choice words and left. All to the amusement of the
shopkeeper. That was the most exciting bit of the night.
As I said earlier, I
think Ange’s job is safe for now, but if fans were questioning anybody, it was
Daniel Levy and the board for not backing his man with a much more robust squad
in the summer. The main team he has got is good… that is, until you have
injuries… then we are in the shit and reliant on the youngsters.
As we got into our
car and drove home, we were blanketed by a very thick fog… very scary… it was
lucky we weren’t involved in an accident… but we live to fight another day, as
does Ange and the team…

Preview: Everton v Spurs
Team news
Ben Davies, Cristian
Romero, Micky van de Ven and Richarlison all can return for this match, while
Mikey Moore and Fraser Forster should both return from illness well in advance.
However, Destiny Udogie and Wilson Odobert are out until February, while Guglielmo
Vicario won’t return until March at the earliest.
We have encountered
stubborn resistance at Goodison Park in recent years. However, Everton has not
beaten us in our last nine normal-time meetings.
I predict we will win
2-4.
My
possible starting lineup:
Kinsky; Porro, Gray, Dragusin,
Spence; Bergvall, Sarr, Maddison; Kulusevski, Solanke, Son
I don’t know what else
I can say.
At this moment in
writing, nobody is on the horizon that we might buy in this January transfer
window… Nevertheless, I am hearing from inside the club that Levy and Co. have
certain players lined up to be purchased before the window closes (which is
typical of how Levy works; they are always looking for a bargain, and that is
why he leaves it so late; by then the best has been taken by more serious
challengers for trophies than us).
Up the Spurs!!!!
Glenn
