Match Preview: Spurs v Sheffield United – my prediction, team news. Lineups and much more…
Let us hope we
continue where we left off before the international break interfered with our
exhilaration. Yes, we've had one draw and three excellent victories under the
tutelage of Ange Postecoglou, and may it continue. But before I get on to that,
there is a little matter of Scotland v England.
Scotland
1 England 3 at the Tottenham Stadium.
Yes, when we played
Scotland, we scored all four goals in an exciting – but one-sided game.
Actually, this isn't so much about me watching England play, but where it was.
Yes, I was invited (Tuesday), along with my partner, Janette, to an evening at
the Tottenham stadium.
We arrived at 5:30,
parked underneath the stadium, and went through to the West Stand, where we
were greeted with a glass of wine and chatted with members of the Spurs
Premium. After chatting for a while, we were offered food (various dishes),
followed by a talk – hosted by Paul Coyte – with two Spurs legends, Martin
Chivers and Graham Roberts. They talked about their time at Tottenham and also
playing for England. Then we were invited for some pudding (and very tasty it
was, again various dishes) before finally settling down to watch England
humiliate Scotland (this was in the Premium lounge). Once that was over, a very
long (2 ½ hours) drive back to Janette's house in Cheltenham. I can tell you; I
was knackered. Five hours driving in one day…
Now to
our game this Saturday against Sheffield United.
Hopefully, we will
continue our winning ways and keep challenging for a top-four place and maybe,
yes, maybe a strong challenge for City's League title. But at the moment, it is
all about Ange building something special that will eventually see us
challenging and winning something we haven't managed to do since 2008: winning a
trophy. Sadly, it won't be the League Cup this season, but there is still the
FA Cup and a top-four place going begging.
On the back of a
brilliant start under Ange Postecoglou, we restart our Premier League
responsibilities at home to Sheffield United this Saturday afternoon.
If you remember, and
no doubt you will, we demolished newly-promoted Burnley 5-2 just before the
international break, while Sheffield United picked up their first point in a
2-2 draw at home to strugglers Everton.
Match
preview
Having scored at
least two goals in all of our Premier League games under Postecoglou so far -
11 in total - we have only been bested on the points tally by Manchester City,
while Brighton are the only team to net more times than us with 12 efforts to
their name.
We could hardly be in
a better position heading into our first North London derby of the season at
the Emirates on September 24, while a home clash with Liverpool is also on the
menu at the end of the month. Win those two matches, and anything is possible.
But let us take one step at a time, though, as there is a little matter of our
game against 17th-placed Sheffield United, who are still looking for a win.

injuries…
We will need to
carefully assess our international players, in particular Son, Romero and
Richarlison, who recently revealed that he plans to seek emotional help after a
challenging time off the field.
Son and Romero both
shook off injury scares.
Rodrigo Bentancur
(knee), Bryan Gil (groin), Ryan Sessegnon (hamstring), and Alfie Whiteman
(ankle) are all recovering from operations. At the same time, Giovani Lo Celso
missed Argentina's fixtures this month with a thigh strain and is touch-and-go
for the weekend.
My
possible starting lineup:
Vicario; Porro, Romero, Van de Ven,
Udogie; Sarr, Bissouma; Kulusevski, Maddison, Solomon; Son
My
prediction…
This will be a hard
call… when we played Bournemouth, I predicted we would win by four goals. It
ended up with two goals for us. So, when we played Burnley, I was cautious, and
we thrashed them 5-2. So, I will stick my neck out and say 5-0.
Spurs 5
Sheffield United 0
The international
break undoubtedly came at a better time for Sheffield United than us, but I can
see us picking up where they left off.
Once past this game, the
fun really starts: a trip to the Arsenic, followed by Liverpool… with a little
matter of Luton Town in between.
So, that is my prediction
and thoughts… It will be an exciting and emotional day. A win will put us in a
strong finish when we face Arsenic at their ground.
Other
important matches this weekend…
Saturday…
Wolverhampton Wanderers v Liverpool
(My prediction: 1-1)
Manchester United v Brighton &
Hove Albion (Prediction: 1-3)
West Ham United v Manchester City
(Prediction: 1-3)
Newcastle United v Brentford
(Prediction: 3-2)
AFC Bournemouth v Chelsea
(Prediction 2-1)
Everton v Arsenic (Prediction: I
hope the Toffees win, but I expect the jammy bastards to win this game against
a poor Everton side).
Up the
Spurs! COYS!
Glenn
