Match Preview: Preston North End v Spurs (FA Cup 4th Rd)

Match prediction, team news, lineups, thoughts etc.

Two defeats (Gooners & City), one bounce back (Fulham), and now Preston in the FA Cup. A respite or a disaster waiting to happen? Over to Conte and the team.

We are on a quest, and that is to win something, anything... In over 20 years of Levy being in charge, we've won one minor trophy, and that was 14 years ago, the measly League Cup. Nothing in the FA Cup. Nevertheless, the quest continues with a trip to Deepdale on Saturday evening.

Preston North End defeated Huddersfield 3-1 to book their spot in round four, while we edged past Portsmouth 1-0 earlier this month…

Our clash with League One side Portsmouth was a much more low-key affair, neverthless, we did enough to go through.

Harry Kane produced another inspiring strike in Monday's 1-0 success over Fulham, cementing his name in another page of Tottenham's record books. Now level with all-time top goalscorer Jimmy Greaves on 266 strikes, Kane will have the record in his sights at Deepdale as we aim to end a fifth-round hoodoo that has struck us in recent seasons.

Us and Preston will renew hostilities this weekend for the first time since the 2009-10 League Cup, where Peter Crouch struck a hat-trick in a 5-1 success for the Lilywhites.

Team News

Our loanee Troy Parrott cannot face his parent club either, so he will be dropped.

Conte should be able to field our recent loan signing in Arnaut Danjuma, whose arrival from Villarreal was confirmed on Wednesday, mere hours after he had completed pre-announcement media duties and signed his Everton contract.

Danjuma reinforces an attack that is still without Lucas Moura, while Bryan Gil has missed a few games with a knock but could recover in time for this clash.

Conte should give run-outs to some second-string players, such as Fraser Forster, Oliver Skipp and Ryan Sessegnon, among those who can feel confident about starting.

My possible starting lineup:

Forster; Tanganga, Dier, Lenglet; Doherty, Skipp, Bissouma, Sessegnon; Kulusevski, Kane, Richarlison

My Prediction: 5-0

Thoughts…

We are not exactly unconquerable right now, but a crucial win at Fulham should have worked wonders for the team's morale, and we should keep our hopes of glory alive with a great performance and routine win.

A bit about Preston North End:-

Preston North End Football Club is a professional football club in Preston, Lancashire, England. They currently play in the EFL Championship.

Originally a cricket club, Preston has been based at Deepdale since 1875. The club first took up football in 1878 as a winter fitness activity and decided to focus on it in May 1880, when the football club was officially founded. Deepdale is now football's oldest ground in continuous use by a league club.

Preston North End was a founder member of the Football League in 1888. In the 1888–89 season, the team won the inaugural league championship and the FA Cup without conceding a goal.

They were the first team to achieve the "Double" in English football and, as they were unbeaten in all matches, are remembered as "The Invincibles". Preston won the league championship again in 1889–90, but their only major success since then has been their 1938 FA Cup Final victory over Huddersfield Town.

Tottenham have a link to that great club.

In the 1898–99 season, Tottenham's final year at Northumberland Park, the club switched colours to white shirts and blue shorts, the same colour choice as that for Preston North End (some say in honour of that double-winning team). White and navy blue have remained as the club's basic colours ever since, with the white shirts giving the team the nickname "The Lilywhites" (also the nickname of Preston North End).

Here is some more useful information:-

In 1921, when Tottenham Hotspur won the FA Cup, the cockerel badge was added to the shirt for the final. A club crest has featured on the shirt since, and Spurs became the first major club to have its club crest on the players' shirt at every match apart from the war years. In 1939 numbers first appeared on shirt backs.

Up the Spurs
