Is ENIC selling? (Possibly not!)
Is
ENIC selling? (Possibly not!)
According
to various sources, ENIC wishes to sell up and move on, however, this isn't new
news. Nevertheless, it has been recently brought back out of the closet and
dusted down by journalist Alasdair Gold of Football.London. He has claimed in
his latest video link that he has heard 'little noises' that ENIC could
potentially look to sell their stake in the club within the next year.
As
you all know, ENIC currently controls the bulk ownership of Tottenham with an
85.6 per cent share, which could increase to 87.5 per cent if they decide to
draw down the complete £150million cash injection from the Bahamas-based
company. ENIC is owned by Joe Lewis who has a net worth of £4.4 billion.
It
is believed that Lewis will try again to put the club up for sale. One of the
reasons put forward is that Tottenham Hotspur club has hit the peak time for a
high valuation.
One
of the explanations for selling could also do with Chelski being sold for
roughly £4.25 bn to a consortium led by the American investor Toddy Boehly.
We have
one of the best training grounds and a new stadium, which beats any training
ground/ club in Britain. I imagine that selling Spurs would easily beat the Americans'
valuation for the Blues.
However,
I do question this. Talking to people close to the owner and chairman, it seems
that Lewis' children want to keep hold of the Tottenham Hotspur assets and
build something even more significant in their own right once their father
passes away.
Granted,
it is all speculation, but the rumours of the kiddie-winkles wanting to take
over makes sense. Joe Lewis is 85, does not need an extra few more billion, and
will probably pass away within the next 15 years. Then the money will be passed
over to his heirs. So it makes much more sense to consult his children about
what they want to do with the money. I've often seen members of the Lewis
family at the ground taking an active part.
As
for Levy, he will want to continue in his own right, and if Lewis does sell,
then our chairman will want to stay on in the same role as head of the empire
he created. That is, if the new owners want him… But Levy can be a stubborn
bastard.
What
is happening on the field is what troubles us (the paying fans). As far as most
are concerned, you could put a monkey in charge and providing the primate
creates a magnificent fighting machine that challengers for top honours, then
we will be happy. After all, Tottenham's team should be first; building a
financial empire should always be second to the Glory, Glory days and nights. It
was the outstanding achievements/ trophies that put Tottenham on the map.
Because of that, ENIC and Levy wanted to take control and lord it over all
before them.
Tottenham,
the club and its player's first and only profits used to challenge the best
clubs in the world. After that, and only then, can Daniel Levy play Kingmaker/
God with what he created in the name of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club (making
money through concerts/ sport etc. and then enriching himself).
With
a great manager installed and some good investment being ploughed into the team
(allegedly), we must build on that for what should come after (must come after!).
All
the best, Glenn
COYS!
