The Canaries 0 Spurs 5 (we did it!!!!!)
The Canaries 0 Spurs 5 (we did it!!!!!)
Yes, we went to Carrow Road, came, saw and
conquered… in the process, putting ourselves in 4th spot and into
the Champions League… Ending above the Gooners, the poorer part of Manchester
and the Spammers. Under Nuno, I could see us struggling or even being close to
relegation, but as soon as Conte stepped through the gates, he transformed the
team into a near psychological powerhouse. Granted, not the entire ticket yet,
but on the way to becoming that powerhouse – providing Daniel Levy backs our
head coach and does not try to be tight-fisted where the money is concerned, as
he usually does.
In my previous article, I predicted we would win
4-0, but in the end, they proved me wrong by getting that one extra goal. Yes,
we won 5-0. Everton and Newcastle were the only two other teams we beat by 5
goals in the league. And what a day to do it… a beautiful Summers Sunday day.
Like most Spurs supporters, I was worried about
our "Spursy" tag. That was until the 3rd goal went in. We ended up
winning comfortably and efficiently, easily seeing off Woolwich Gooners into
5th.
I was picked up by Mel at 7.30 am in the morning,
and we travelled until we reached a prebooked pub restaurant where we had a
nice dinner not far from the stadium, topped off with a cold glass of beer. From
there, we parked near the stadium (5 minutes walk) and then went straight to
the ground, where we met the customary fellow fans for a chat and laugh. About
two hours before kick-off, we went in and found our seats.
Our first bit of entertainment was watching this
giant fellow of a man straddling over three seats. Never mind, I am presuming
political correctness would have dealt with it in the manner of pleasing the big
man to the frustration of the body perfect. Norwich security watched on in
amusement, wondering what would happen when the other seatholders claimed their
seats. Unfortunately, we didn't see the outcome as we had to go to our own seats…
There was better viewing on the pitch, listening to our radios, and hearing how
other results went. As for the "Big man," all was forgotten in the excitement
of our magnificent victory.
For
the record:
City
won the title, while the scousers came second.
The
Russian Chelski's came third… just…
The
Gooners and United got the booby price, Europa League, while the even more
booby prize (Europa Conference) went to the Hammers for being such bubbling
blowing dickheads.
Relegated
were Burnley, Watford and Norwich.
To
the match…
Antonio Conte said to the press that he ranks
leading Tottenham back into the Champions League by finishing fourth as one of
the best achievements of his career. I don't think so… but still… it is all
propaganda to please the fans and the powers that are!
Yes, we hammered Norwich City to oblivion by
beating them 5-0 on the season's final day to secure our return to Europe's top
club competition at the expense of Woolwich Gooners.
When Conte was appointed our manager, we were
eighth in the table; having suffered a miserable 3-0 home defeat by Manchester
United, our fifth loss in seven league games, we appeared in disarray.
In March 2022, when we were defeated 3-2 by
Manchester United, and the Gooners had beaten Leicester, we sat six points
adrift of the fourth-placed Gunners, having played a game more.
But we were resilient and stayed in the hunt and
seized the momentum in the race for fourth with a 3-0 against the Woolwich
Gooners on the 12 May, and followed that with wins over Burnley and Norwich to
seal a return to the Champions League after two seasons in Europe's lesser club
competitions.
Son also finished the campaign with 23 goals,
six more than his previous highest tally in a single Premier League season
Conte described Sunday as a "perfect
day", with the feeling of Champions League qualification sweetened by Son
scoring twice to share the Premier League Golden Boot with Mohamed Mixed-Salad.
Thoughts
and match
If there were any nerves from our players, it
didn't show… as Kulusevski gave us the
lead in the 16th minute.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's played in Rodrigo
Bentancur, who beat the offside trap to race in on goal and square for
Kulusevski to tap in from close range.
Norwich came close to equalising, but Milot
Rashica's low shot went wide of Hugo Lloris' post. Kane then made it 2-0 for us
in the 32nd minute, thanks to a mistake from Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul. Bentancur,
who crossed for an unmarked Kane to nod home into an empty net.
In the 64th minute, we made the game safe as
Kulusevski scored his second with a stunning strike.
Son then drew level with Mo Mixed-Salad in the
Golden Boot race on 22 goals in the 70th minute. Then five minutes later, Son went
one clear of Salad five minutes later from outside the box, but Salad scored at
Anfield against Wolves shortly after to ensure the award was shared.
When Son scored his second, pandemonia ensured
at the way end of the crowd. The fans went crazy, along with the players on the
pitch. Yes, our players jumped all over Son as he scored his second…
Our victory over Norwich means we can look
forward to many trips abroad to see some of the best teams in Europe… rubbing
shoulders with Europe's elite once again.
After the game, all our WhatsApp group met up
outside for hugs and high fives. We also saw Hannah and Stephanie from Premium,
with whom we chatted to. All this while blue flairs were set off around us by
our fans. The police just stood by and watched our supporters enjoying the
occasion and fireworks.
Afterwards, we left to get Mel's car, offering David
a lift to Rickmansworth, London. I finally got home at 11pm. Mel an hour later.
At the beginning of the season, a group of us put
a bet on that we would finish in the top four (six of us putting on a £50 bet
each). Our winnings were £250 each. So, it was a win-win season for us. We are
now in the Champions League, and if Conte stays with Levy's backing… it will be
an amazing 2022/23 season. Maybe another bet???? What about a bet on a Cup win…
or even the league title… or/ and a Champions League final? I suppose all this
will depend on whether Conte stays or is disillusioned enough and leaves for a more
enthusiastic club that wants trophies and top honours!?
COYS!
