Match Preview: Spurs v Leicester City (is this our last chance to get back on track?)

After a run of good wins, we did the "Spursy" thing and crash-dived on our own turf against Brighton and then allowed Christian Eriksen's team to run rings around us, even though neither side managed to score any goals at Brentford's community stadium. Just a point each.

We are currently two points behind the Woolwich Gunners, but if we lose against Leicester and Woolwich beat the Spammers, we then can kiss goodbye to any chances of us getting into the top four. So it all hangs on Sunday's game. And come on you Bubbling blowing Spammers… please do something right for once and ridicule those Woolwich sneak thieves.

For that day/ game (Sunday), I got Janette a ticket as our WhatsApp group have booked a restaurant at the Tottenham stadium. We were hoping for the last home game to have our restaurant meal, however, the Burnley game would have been a 12 O'clock kick-off, too early for a restaurant meal, and the Woolwich game will be a mid-week one, and that would create its own problems (getting to the game early on a works night). So this Sunday is the day for our get-together meal.

As I said, we will be desperate to secure all three points when we take on Leicester City on Sunday. We have looked sluggish in the last week. Our strong offence has failed to deliver in two consecutive matches against lower-ranked sides. We had to settle the previous game in an infuriating draw with Brentford. In the post-match conference, Antonio Conte reacted to his side's performance by saying: "We wanted to get the three points, we wanted to win, but at the same time, I think it's fair that today a draw is right. Now we have to continue to work and play these last five games and see at the end of the season the position we are able to reach."

As for Leicester City, they had a tough challenge to avoid a defeat when they met us in our away game (but ultimately failed in the dying minutes of extra time). The Foxes are in search of a win from the last 3 games. They couldn't score a single goal in the last match against a lower-ranked team, Aston Villa.

We are currently in 5th in the points table with 58 points from 33 games. We won 3 of the last 5 matches and lost 1.

In the points table, Leicester City is currently in 10th with 42 points from 32 matches. In the last 5 games, Leicester could win only 1. They lost 1 game, and 3 games ended in a draw.

We have to go for this game, a loss will probably end any chances of us getting into the top four.

Tottenham (3-4-3): Lloris; Romero, Dier, Davies; Emerson, Bentancur, Reguilon, Hojbjerg; Kulusevski, Son, Kane

My thoughts

Son will lead the attack for us. He has been excellent this season as he has scored 17 goals so far with 6 assists and 9 big chances created. Harry Kane is another striker who has added 12 goals to his name till now, with 8 assists and 17 big chances made.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has performed consistently well in the midfield for us. Hojbjerg has played with a passing accuracy of 89% this season at a dribbling success of 69%. Rodrigo Bentancur is another influential midfielder with a passing accuracy of 90% so far.

Eric Dier has been our leading defender. He has been consistent this season as he had 13 clean sheets with an average of 3.7 clearances per game. Cristian Romero is another top performer in the defence who had  5 clean sheets with an average of 2.9 tackles per match.

On paper, we definitely have the upper hand in his game as we will be playing in our home stadium. But we need the Kane-Son to contribute in scoring in the remaining games if we want to finish in the top 4. As for Leicester City, they will have to bring out their best to challenge us.

So that is that. We can win it if the right Spurs turn up, sadly, in the last couple of weeks, that hasn't been the case… but onwards and upwards.

It is Janette's birthday on Saturday (so it probably will be a late-nighter), then a very early rise on Sunday morning (6.45am); we will then travel to Mel's house to pick him up and then a two and a half-hour drive from there to Tottenham's ground. It will be a very knackering weekend… luckily it is a Bank Holiday Monday, so it will be a very well appreciated restful day.

We need a good win to make this a perfect weekend.

After this Sunday's game, we travel to Liverpool the following Saturday, followed by the Woolwich Gunners in midweek. Then on the 15^th of May, we have our last home game against Burnley. After that, the season ends with an away game against Norwich City.
