Match
Report: Spurs 3 the Hammers 1 (are we now on the up?)
After almost a season of ups and downs… joys,
heartaches and frustrations, are we finally stringing results together that
could get us into the Champions League? At this moment in time, I am more
thinking of a Europa League place… unless we can get the Gooners and United to
have a run of comical banana slip-ups.
In my previous blogs, I said that Brighton or
the Spammers would beat us, going by the way we've been playing lately… luckily
we overcame both to get us into fifth position and three points behind the
Gooners, who are in 4th. We are eight points behind Chelsea in
third. As for City and Liverpool – they are out of reach. So no dreams of
surprisingly pipping both teams for the league title… no, we can't do a
Leicester City this time around. Of course, we are still capable of doing a "Spursy",
so we must be on top form if we don't want any more "Spursy" slip-ups.
On the trip up to N17, there was a lot of
traffic around, and we took longer than usual. Approximately 40 minutes longer…
in the grand scheme of things, nothing to cry home about… but that is the
problem; travelling to London is a hit or miss affair. At least it was a warm
day. Anyhow … to the match.
Let me start off by congratulating myself… I
predicted 3-1, and it was 3-1 we ended up with… however, when I said this to
Janette, her reply was, "You always predict 3-1". But I am Spurs, and
that means being confident and expecting the best… even though that has been a
hard sell since Levy took over.
Conte
on TV
Watching the replay on TV, I saw Antonio Conte
saying things are "starting to work".
Things always start to work… generally, before they begin to unravel… that is in
my Spurs experience in the last twenty or so years. Anyway, we moved to within
three points of the Premier League's top four with a strong display against a fluctuating
Spammers team.
Son and Kane were involved in all three of our goals
as we recorded back-to-back Premier League wins.
Conte said to the press, "We have this ambition, the
ambition is to target fourth place. Before my arrival, this seemed difficult to
reach, but now after five months, this is starting to work." I've heard
that before, let us hope this time is the real McCoy! He went on and said, "We
want to stay in this race until the end. It's very difficult, but we are
improving in a way that I like. This team is growing in the mentality, they are
learning to control the game, and this is very important. There are four teams
that in my opinion in England are better than the others - I am talking about
Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool. But if one of these
four teams fail in the season and miss to stay in one of the four places, I
think that now at this moment, Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham need to be ready
to try to stay until the end." I don't know why Conte has put United
amongst City, Chelski or Liverpool as they are not in the same class as them. They
are more in the category of Gooners, Spammer and us. Besides, they are also
below us and only two points above the Bubbling blowing Spammers. As for the
rest of what Conte spouts, it is just the bleeding bloody obvious… but with his
broken English… bless!
Thoughts
We got off to a brilliant start as we dazzled
the bubble blowers and went ahead in the ninth minute when Kurt Zouma guided
Kane's cross into his own net under pressure from Son. A note on cat lover Zouma; every time he touched the ball, our fans
booed or made Miaow noises. As for rumours that he eats cats' eyes to see him
through the day? I can't possibly comment! Miaow!
Putting the kitty abuser to one side… Son
doubled our lead after 24 minutes, but we could have had more goals as Son also
smacked the outside of the post a few times.
Son added a third in the second half with two
minutes to go after Said Benrahma had pulled one back for the Bubble blowing
ham actors from a set-piece.
As I said earlier, we are now just three points
behind fourth-placed Arsenal, who have a game in hand. The Bubble blowers have played
a game more than us as they drop to seventh, two points below the poorer team from
Manchester.
Facts
Son has scored 20 goals in the Premier League,
which have been set up by Kane
Our forward pairing of Son and Kane have caused
teams problems for years, and they were in dazzling form again at our Tottenham
stadium.
The first goal came after Matt Doherty's
tireless pressing won the ball back for Spurs and Kane instinctively looked to
tee up Son before Zouma could do nothing but send it into his own net.
Kane himself had chances to score, too, but he
was denied from close range in the second half before later firing over the
bar.
The two team combination of Son and Kane have
now linked up for 39 goals in the Premier League, extending their record as the
competition's deadliest double acts.
Son has scored 20 Premier League goals on a Kane
assist - and only David Silva (22 to Sergio Aguero) and Frank Lampard (25 to
Didier Drogba) have assisted a team-mate more.
... and
finally
Well, all good news, I just hope we can keep it up…
after the International break (which, in my opinion, is a waste of time); we
face Newcastle United, who seem to be on form lately and managed to get themselves
out of the bottom three. After that, we travel to Birmingham to face Aston Villa,
then a home game against the bird flying shitting seagulls at our stadium. When
we were in the land of Brighton seagulls last week, we beat them 2-0 (and don't
forget, we knocked them out of the FA Cup as well).
We've still got to play the Gooners, but they
are hiding under the COVID banner (or had hidden under the COVID banner) just
so that they wouldn't face the big giant cannon eating Cockerel. That game will
be a home match when the Gooners find the nerve to come out of hiding. Beat the
crybabies, and we could go above them and secure a top-four spot… Yes, well spotted... a lot "ifs". But
if we didn't live in a world of "ifs, " Levy might have just been a pipe
dream! You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one, I hope someday
you'll join us and the world will be without "ifs" & "Levy".
Just Imagine! In any case, enough of
this frivolity and back to the real world!
I don't know if I should be happy that we've
strung two winning games together or just cry in my cereal bowl? The word "Spursy"
lingers over our heads. Will be it be Conte that banishes that word to the dungeon
of no longer required evil words (like Putin, Donald Duck Trump… get my drifter?)…
or will Daniel Levy and Joe Lewis run to the recuse of "Spursy" and
fire Conte and continue to keep "Spursy" over our heads?
We now have a two-week break so that the players
can play in pointless national games and get injured for no reason other than FA/
UEFA/ Fifa can justify the millions they get for being arseholes and in powerful
positions. God helps us!
COYS!
