Match Preview: Burnley v Spurs (a continuation from the City game?)
Match Preview: Burnley v Spurs (a continuation from the City game?)
After our brilliant victory over the league
leaders, we must now continue from there and show our supporters that things
have changed and we can get into the top four.
The original date for the Burnley game at Turf Moor was postponed 50
minutes before kick-off because of heavy snow. Actually, it would have cleared
up if the referee had waited for a couple of hours; nevertheless, that
rearranged game is ready to be played this Wednesday.
I was one of them who actually made it to the ground,
got inside and was already waiting for the game to start before the officials
decided to have a laugh and call off the game. Mel and I spent the whole day
travelling up and down the motorway, with nothing to show for it.
Both
teams:
On the weekend just gone, Burnley ran out 3-0
winners against Brighton while we dismantled Manchester City 3-2 at the Etihad
stadium.
According to the press and fans alike, many
expected our fourth consecutive Premier League defeat. Riyad Mahrez's late penalty
appeared to get the point for Man City, but Kane was there at the end to head
home in the fifth minute of injury time to send us home with tears of joy in
our eyes. Now people are questioning why we couldn't produce the goods against
the likes of Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers. Whatever the reason, we
must build on the City game.
The 3-2 win over City did mark the third Premier
League away game in a row that we have conceded two goals. Still, we have won
our last three against Burnley with three clean sheets in tow.

News
Burnley
Sean Dyche is hopeful that Weghorst and Maxwel
Cornet will play.
It remains to be seen if Charlie Taylor and
COVID-positive players James Tarkowski and Ashley Westwood will be back in time.
Still, Johann Berg Gudmundsson has picked up a fresh injury, and Matej Vydra is
recovering from his hernia operation.
If fitness levels allow him to do so, Sean Dyche
will undoubtedly hope to name an unchanged XI, with Nathan Collins set to
partner Ben Mee in the rearguard if Tarkowski cannot start the game.
Tottenham
Eric Dier was back for Man City game, but Oliver Skipp (groin) and
Japhet Tanganga (knee) are set to sit this one out again.
Sergio Reguilon confirmed on social media that
he had contracted COVID-19 before the Man City win and is also unlikely to take
part. Still, Emerson Royal should be fine despite coming off with a knock at
the Etihad.
Dejan Kulusevski's goal and assist earned him
high praise from Conte at the weekend and should form an unchanged attack with
Kane and Son this Wednesday.
My
possible starting lineup:
Lloris;
Dier, Romero, Davies; Emerson, Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Sessegnon; Kulusevski,
Kane, Son
My
thoughts and prediction
Burnley 1-4 Tottenham Hotspur
After the City game, we will be desperate to
prove that our win was no fluke.
Burnley can breach our leaky backline, but our
front three will have the necessary firepower to put us in a comfortable lead
and win the game.
Well, that is it, folks. We can win this, we
must win this and start fighting for a top-four place. End up as we did before
the City game, and we can kiss goodbye to any chance of getting a top-four
spot. It is in our hands!
COYS!
All the best, Glenn
