Tottenham responds to UEFA’s decision to exclude them from the Europa Conference League.
The club have responded to UEFA’s ruling that
awarded Rennes a 3-0 victory because of
our postponed fixture.
We were due to play the Rennes game two weeks
ago; which would have been our final group game. We would have had to win to
progress further in the competition. But the game was called off because of an
outbreak of COVID, and UEFA could not reschedule the game for a date that
suited both parties.
Today (Monday 20th December), UEFA
finally announced that the game will be awarded to Rennes, thus technically
knocking us out of the Micky Mouse European competition. Vitesse Arnhem,
therefore, qualified for the knockout stages at the expense of us.
We presented several alternative dates to Rennes
and were even ready to play the fixture just 24 hours after our game against the
Red scousers, but the Frogs rejected all proposed dates.
A Tottenham spokesman said: “We are disappointed by the
ruling of the UEFA Appeals Body & the refusal to allow more time for the
match to be rescheduled. We have to accept this ruling, however, & our
focus now turns to the competitions we remain in.”
Personally
It is a stupid decision on behalf of UEFA’s comedy
or errors Department however, the club made a wise decision not to appeal the
verdict as we can concentrate better on the League and English Cup competitions.
Not having the disruption of the
Conference League would undoubtedly give us a better chance of going further in
the FA and League Cups. Sod them, it is their loss!
