Match preview: Spurs v Brentford (hopefully better luck this time!)

At the Tottenham stadium. Kick-off at 7.30 pm.

Yes, I was one of them who travelled up to Turf Moor, got into the stadium, and was then told to turn around and go back home; this was forty minutes before kick-off. So, from 7 am to 7.30 pm, I was mainly on the road; the little bit in between was inside Burnley stadium eating their pies and then washing it down with a pint of beer. That was my Sunday… Deep Joy! But that is what you get when you are a loyal follower of your club; nobody gives a shit other than the fans themselves.

Yes, ten minutes after the lineups were confirmed ahead of our encounter with Burnley, the referee, Peter Bankes, decided that the conditions were too severe for Burnley's game to go ahead. Basically, Burnley didn't put on the undersoil heating because they ran out of shillings.

Conte's first Premier League home game ended in elation with a 2-1 win over Leeds United before he was shamed by NS Mura in the Europa Conference League.

Granted, because of our cancelled match against Burnley, we have a game in hand on all the sides above us as we occupy seventh spot in the league.

Spurs

We continue to be without Cristian Romero, and Giovani Lo Celso also remains a doubt. Dane Scarlett is also struggling with an ankle problem.

Davinson Sanchez was named in the first XI for the Burnley game despite his unsteady showing at Mura, which could mean that our manager could stick with the original lineup from the postponed Burnley game.

Brentford

Rico Henry and Sergi Canos both forced off in the win over Everton, but their manager is confident that both players will be fine for this game. The same can be said for Christian Norgaard, but Mathias Jorgensen is more of a doubt, and Brentford will continue to cope without David Raya, Kristoffer Ajer and Josh Dasilva.

My possible starting lineup:

Lloris; Sanchez, Dier, Davies; Emerson, Skipp, Hojbjerg, Reguilon; Lucas, Kane, Son

 

My thoughts

We have made a bit of a practice of winning one then losing one at home in the Premier League, and London derbies have not precisely been our forte, losing our last five against London teams.

With this team that Conte has inherited, it could go any way, however, as always, I shall be optimistic and go for a 3-1 win.

Prediction: 3-1

After the failures of Sunday, I am hoping for a cleaner ride to Tottenham and that they will have their under soiling heating on. No doubt they will check the day before whether it is needed or not.  Pay attention, Burnley!
