Daniel Levy doesn’t want to talk… we know why!

Kieran Maguire, the Football finance expert,  has condemned the club for refusing to meet with THST (the Tottenham football Trust), the official supporters’ group, accusing Levy and co of treating fans with contempt.

For those that don’t know, The Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust (THST) had written to the club inviting a get-together with the Executive Board to deliberate both the short and long-term strategic vision of the football club. The Trust publicised that they had done so after an increasing number of Trust members and fans voiced great anxiety over how the club is headed. The reply back showed contempt for them and the supporters by declining to speak to the lower order. The THST have now decided to hold an emergency meeting of their Board that will discuss what they will do next.

The club decided that they are too far above the THST, and the fans to reply to them, which has created anger… but no doubt that anger will be seen as a little local difficulty by the Board and Levy.

The club have their own agenda, and that agenda won’t be side-tracked by fans who care more about their team than the Board’s objective of making the Tottenham stadium into a cash-cow machine that will enrich the elite. The Tottenham Hotspur football team is regarded as part of a multiplex entertainment machine and not a single entity football club. To confirm this, the stadium has its own insignia (not our Cockerel) that defines it. The Cockerel represents the history of the club, not the multiplex Arena.

Maguire believes that the boards latest snub to THST is further evidence that Premier League clubs treat the concerns of match-going fans as mere tokenism. He told Football Insider website magazine, “I think the original mea culpa of the Premier League Super League clubs has evaporated. We are now back to tokenism in terms of true engagement and listening to fans’ concerns. Fans are there to be held in contempt, monetised, and provide a backdrop for the television audience. This is indicative of the sheer contempt in which Spurs fans and many other fans are held. It’s disgraceful. And that is by the people who are in charge of the day-to-day running of their club, who are meant to represent them.”

My concerns

When Daniel Levy joined the club, he joined a tradition, a unique identity, a renowned football club… he then started knocking seven bells off shit out of it by demolishing White Hart Lane – the football club – and replacing it with an Amphitheatre of various dreams (events) that will be fit for all, not just the football going public. He changed the fan from being a supporter to being a client (posher, less vulgar… defining money as the objective, not the fan).

It is increasingly becoming a reality to the docile fan that Daniel Levy and the Board are paying more attention to a national (broader) and global audience rather than over the heart and soul of a once prestigious football club.

If the supergroup of six English clubs and their European partners/ football clubs had gone ahead with the Superleague and into a global market, the individual supporting fan supporting his club would have eventually disappeared and entirely replaced by the rich Hooray Henry’s. But that failed – for the moment – but the Hooray Henry’s are still a desire for our Tottenham Hotspur Stadium Board.

Anybody see the film “The Stepford Wives”? How about the Stepford football fans that are just obedient automatons that just does the bidding of their masters (the Tottenham Hotspur board… and Levy, of course!)and very quickly disappear under his own volition.

Some may not agree, but that is only because they ignore the writing on the wall.
