Lingard, to some, he is like marmite.
Lingard, to some, he is like marmite.
There has been
speculation that Jesse Lingard could come to Spurs. Yes, I know he isn’t a fans
favourite, however, his spell at the Spammers was a good one, and under the right
coach, he could continue that run. But it also depends on what our Coach thinks
of him, but his name is in their thoughts.
But those Spurs
fans who want to see him at our club aren’t alone. Kevin Phillips (ex Sunderland
player) is another one who believes that a move to our club could be a good
one.
As I said, Jesse
did brilliantly in his loan spell at the Spammers last season. Some have
credited him as the leading player that helped the Wet Spams to leapfrog us for
a place in the Europa League (maybe that is reason enough not to have him!).
But not only
did Lingard do well at the Ironmongers, but he also got a crack at the England
squad (just failing to get into the final 26).
If our
thoughts are towards Lingard, we must also remember that we would be competing
to get his signature with the Ironmongers. I do know that the Spammers fear us pinching
their star loanee. He is the same age as Kane, so he still has some petrol left
in the tank for quite a few seasons…
What Spurs
have in their favour is that United want (speculation) Winks, and he could be
used in a swap deal.
Phillips
believes that Lingard could be a shrewd procurement for us, insisting that Nuno
could be the man to get the best out of him.
When Phillips
was asked by the well-known publication, Football insider, he commented, “I
think it will be a brilliant move for him if they can do it. It’s all new at
Spurs. They’re in transition with the new manager coming. We’ve seen what Nuno
did at Wolves in terms of the way he likes to play and get the best out of his
players. I don’t see him staying at Man United. They might like him to stay,
but I don’t see him being guaranteed week in, week out football and he’s got
used to that at West Ham. You don’t want to go back there and just sit on the
bench after tasting what he did. So I think Tottenham would be a fantastic move
for him. He’s top class when he wants to be, the type of player that Nuno
probably likes that can get in the box and score goals.”
My thoughts
To be honest,
I am not sure. Yes, he had a good season with the wet wipes, but it is never as
simple as that, but saying that, the same could be said about any player that
comes to us. It will all depend on how Nuno can work his magic. Nevertheless,
at the end of the day, it is about team effort and if the team that Nuno employees
can put us back into the Champions League, then whatever player we purchase
will be the right ones. Fail, and the opposite can be said.
Be safe, Glenn
