Daniel Levy's revolution starts with the Youth Academy
Daniel Levy's revolution starts with the Youth Academy
Tottenham
are about to recruit a Recruitment Chief. Yes, Chris Perkins will come from Everton
to join our youth setup.
Daniel Levy
has always been fond of our youth system; in fact, when he became our chairman,
he made it his priority; now, he is set to increase the club's recruitment
staff by appointing Chris Perkins as our 'new head of emerging talent' (information
from Football.London).
Chris Perkins
had spent most of his football career in the lower leagues. He first joined Mansfield
Town, then moved on to Chesterfield. There he made 147 appearances in all competitions
(this was over five years).
So it is
understandable why Levy wants him. He is 47 years old and has managed to build
an imposing vocation in recruitment following his retirement from the game. He
also served as the Head of Recruitment for Derby County's Academy. While there,
he supervised many great talents coming through the ranks and then into the
first team.
Joining Everton
He then
joined Everton, doing the same work, but because of the influence of Levy and the
club's youth setup, it wasn't hard to poach him (and of course, in that
respect, we have one of the worlds best youth Academies).
Football.London
also revealed that the club have been restructuring their off-the-pitch team and
consider Perkins as an important man to improve our Academy set up even further.
With Perkins,
Pararici, Rastrick (Academy manager) etc., Levy hopes that the best of the
young Academy will eventually be a cheaper option than splashing out vast sums
of money buying in.
My thoughts
Daniel Levy
has always said that the enormous wages that clubs' pay out to attract the best
quality are unstainable, and other options must be sort, and one of those
options is through our Academy. The appearance of Paratici and Perkins signals
that Levy hopes to better recognise the brightest young talent. Also, with the
appointment of Nuno, they expect those players would have a clear pathway into
the first team (game, set, and Match… at least Levy hopes so).
Be safe, Glenn
