What do you think about Steven Gerrard as our manager?

So many of you will be surprised that the former Liverpool great and Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has been added as a potential candidate by Levy in his continuous search for a replacement for Mourinho. Even though many expected him to be a future Liverpool manager. But things like that don’t bother Levy.

Along with other papers, the Telegraph have reported that Daniel Levy is impressed by Gerrard’s first three years of football management, which have seen him lead Rangers to their first Scottish Premier League title in over a decade. Their title-winning season prevented Celtic from capturing their 10th in a row title.

Obviously, he would rather manage Liverpool, however, he could use Spurs as a stepping stone to eventually manage his beloved club. Nonetheless, the dilemma for Gerrard is, would he be able to one day land the Liverpool coaching assignment, more so if he fails at Spurs (and most under Levy will fail while he has a strong grip on the purse strings)?

As for using Spurs as a stepping stone, he won’t be the first nor the last; Arsenal player Terry O’Neill managed us until jumping ship and then taking over his beloved Arsenal. Pochettino would have eventually jumped ship if he hadn’t been pushed. Any manager under Levy could never see a future at the club, but short term and as a stepping stone, ideal for an up and coming manager.

Surprisingly a large section of Spurs fans like the idea of him managing us, while another portion are totally hostile because of his status at Liverpool. We also must remember that he is the least experienced of all the managers that Levy has interviewed, and also going by past managers. But as they all failed (the past managers), and there is no likelihood hood under Levy of Gerrard winning anything substantial, why not give him a go?

The trouble is you don’t know what goes through Levy’s mind; his first concern is the financial aspect. The team and glory are way down on Levy’s list. Would that suit any manager? Will it suit Gerrard? I doubt it, but then again, he might be very confident in himself and knows that if he does well, the future chances of managing Liverpool and thus winning trophies could look very juicy.
