It is a three-way love triangle: Poch, Levy & Rodriguez
It is a three-way love triangle: Poch, Levy & Rodriguez
According to GOAL online website – the official bible for football – Pochettino has told Paris Saint-Germain that he wants out, and It isn’t just Levy who wants his signature, but also Real Madrid’s president Florentino Perez Rodriguez.
And Poch is fully aware that a group of influential football owners are gathering for his signature. Zinedine Zidane wants out of Real Madrid, he announced earlier this week that he is leaving, so the scramble is on to replace him (source: BBC). But Real Madrid isn’t just making eyes at Pochettino, they are also looking at Antonio Conte, with who they’ve held discussions with. He left Inter Milan a few days ago because of a dispute over wages.
I previously reported that for Pochettino to jump ship and land on Spurs boat, he wanted control over transfers and a four-year signing back on deal. Well, it seems that Daniel Levy has capitulated to his demands and is just waiting for him to say yes and sign on the dotted line. What Levy has in his favour is that Mauricio’s wife and son still live in London and are pretty comfortable there. Going to Real Madrid would take him further away from them. And don’t forget that Paris is only a skip over a bit of a puddle.
My thoughts
As
I said previously, I had doubts over him coming back, but if he managed to get
a few concessions out of Levy, I would give him the benefit of the doubt and
welcome him back.
Picking
Real Madrid over Spurs would be a very tricky thing to do. The Life expectancy
of managers at Real Madrid is very short-lived, and they are also impatient,
while Levy has no other choice other than to let him have a lot of freedom and time to
build a team in his image. In other words, Levy can’t afford another failure on
his hands. He has let 15 managers (including Pochettino) slip through his hands
with only one trophy to show for it in twenty years. His only success at Tottenham
is the building of his cash-cow Stadium. Where it matters, on the field, he has
been a total, and utter failure and another catastrophe will be another nail in
his coffin.
One
question mark, though; will Levy also give him the resources to compete with
the other big 5 clubs? Somehow I doubt it. When Levy walks, his Uranus squeaks;
that is how tight he holds his money in.
All
the best, Glenn
COYS!
