He is going: Danny Rose.
He is going: Danny Rose.
After 14
years at our club, Danny Rose is finally leaving. Spurs announced this on their
website on Thursday, 27th May.
It wasn’t
really a surprise as Rose hasn’t been able to get a first-team place for a
while now. He became surplus to requirements.
He joined us
from Leeds in 2007 and became one of the best left-backs in the Premier League
during the peak of his powers. He scored that famous goal in his debut against Arsenal,
and there was that other famous picture of a beer in hand at the end of our celebrated
victory over Ajax to get us into the final.
He had made
214 appearances for the club, scored 10 goals and 29 assists in his time there.
And that is as a defender.
But in his
time at the club, there have been controversial incidents, such as his
notorious comments about Googling players and how players at the club were being
underpaid (Sun). He had also found himself at loggerheads with the club over the
years… the final straw was when Pochettino was replaced by Mourinho, and he was
gradually dropped. Eventually, the only place he seemed to be allowed near was
in the youth team to see out his contract or loan to Newcastle. This was
believed to be so that he wouldn’t be a negative influence on the first team.
In his last days,
he went to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where some of the youth team were
playing, and spent time giving them advice from an experienced players
perspective.
When you
speak to Spurs fans, they all have a different memory of him, but whatever way
you look at him, he was popular with the fans.
Like all Tottenham
players of recent times, he has no trophies to show for his time at the club (and
that is why Harry wants to go).
We wish him
luck where ever he goes.
