Should Levy sack
Mourinho and we go back to the Tottenham way of playing?
By Don Scully
Many fans say Mourinho should be sacked, while another group says, let
him stay as we are still in two competitions. Personally, I can't see Levy
sacking him while we are in a final and Europa League. And we are still within
a shout of a top four spot.
"The Tottenham
way" or style of playing.
Fans scream that Mourinho isn't playing "the Tottenham way."
That Tottenham way, which has brought us an abundance of trophies in the last
39 years. In fact, we can go back to the beginning (1882) and look at all those
beautiful trophies that "the Tottenham way" has bought us, hundreds
of league titles, even more FA and league cups, and as for European trophies,
my god! We've been swamped under. I bet United, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, and
Liverpool are all jealous of our Tottenham way of playing and all those
trophies that we've won.
You are probably thinking, what fucking trophy haul? I've looked
through Tottenham records and ain't seen anything as near the trophies you've
mentioned… exactly! But I am presuming
many fans are quite content with the little we have won, so long as we play "the
Tottenham way" and at least finish between 4th and 6th?
Two fucking league titles in 139 years of history. Even with the FA Cup,
we are behind Arsenal & United. Granted, we are in third position, along
with Chelsea (both on eight FA Cups), but there are quite a few teams below us
who are in striking distance. It won't be long before those others catch up and
take over, unless we stop the rot.
As for the European Champions League: Manchester United, Liverpool,
Chelsea, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest are the five English clubs that have
won Champions League (previously European Cup) titles, with Liverpool victory
over us in 2019 being the most recent English club in that competition, and if
we extend that to British clubs then we would have to include Celtic.
How about the League cup? Well, we are behind Liverpool,
City, Villa and Chelsea. Of course, we did win the Cup Winners' Cup, so that is
something (and the first British club to do so!). Oh, I nearly forgot the two
UEFA titles we won in 1971-2 & 1983-4 (silly me!). "The Tottenham
way" of playing, you can't beat it. Sadly, all this is in the past, and in
some cases over 50 years in the past (but only 3 trophies in 39 years, breath-taking!).
"The Tottenham Way," eh!. And don't forget that we won the double in
1960/61, that is unique… erm, no. There have been 11 other double-winning teams,
with Manchester United and Arsenal leading the way on three apiece. Never mind,
we've still got the memories of Bill Nicholson.
Mourinho is the most successful manager we've ever had (even though he
hasn't won trophies for us yet), even beating Bill Nicholson, Keith Berkinshaw
and fans favourite Pochetino (who has won fuck all for us). But some fans still
want Mourinho fired because he is not playing "the Tottenham way". It is a bit like, in war terms, let's get
Neville Chamberlin back and stick our two fingers up at Winston Churchill. OK,
I know what you are thinking, who the hell is Neville Chamberlin and Winston
Churchill. Exactly!
But the Spurs way is what we want.
Mourinho and
getting him the sack?
Why Levy should think about sacking Jose, regardless of all he's
achieved throughout his managerial career at Manchester United, Chelsea, Real
Madrid, Inter Milan and Porto. How about dire football, we need to play a
certain way (think of all those trophies we've won) No-trophy-Pochettino was
very popular, and his teams played good football; that is what counts! "The
Tottenham way" of playing!
Under Mourinho, things have been poor. Especially when Harry Kane was injured (we won't mention that things were poor under Pochettino when Harry
wasn't playing, it is our secret).
Mourinho was hired because he's a winner, and this season might be no
different.
As for unrest behind the scenes, when isn't there unrest when things go
a bit off balance?
What do you think? "the Tottenham way" with all we've
achieved throughout our history (more so in the last 39 or so years) or the
Mourinho way with all the potential he brings?
