What a result, what a win! Tottenham Hotspur 2 Manchester City 0 (zero)

We are now top of the League. However, and saying that I thought City would do much better than they did. Anybody who has Jesus on their side then I would expect it to rain goals from Heaven. A man who can turn water into wine and come back from the dead (no wonder Arsenal would like to purchase him) should excel themselves in a simple footie game, but alas, it wasn't to be (thank God… and no doubt He had a say in it as well!). Anyway, enough of this frivolity.

I must admit, in my blog preview, I predicted a 2-0 win, and 2-0 it was. But, to be fair, we do have a fantastic front line, midfield and defence…

I started off the day with two glasses of wine (did it help, I hear you ask? Hopefully, as for the score… precisely!). Not that my drinking created a telepathic link to influence play… but then again, in this strange world of Brexit, Trump the Virus, anything is possible I suppose.

So, let me say it again, (only because it sounds good), we went top of the Premier League after producing a magnificent display of tactical discipline and efficiency to beat City (that is the successful half of Manchester).

Some have seen this match as a battle of wits between Mourinho and Guardiola. But whatever way you look at it, experience won over a man who has just signed a new contract for his club. But it was our man Son in the end who put us in front after five minutes. A superb goal from Ndombele and then our man shot the ball into the net.

City battled, even scored, but VAR (a friend of Spurs, where City is concerned) said it was handball and the goal was disallowed. Funny enough it was that man Jesus who used his arm to control the ball that resulted in their goal being disallowed… He probably was thinking, if wine, then so be it with goals… silly lad! God, as the saying goes, does work in mysterious ways, but against His son? (oh, we laughed!).

Now, saying a team in 10^th place (at the wrong end of the table) isn’t a trier would be wrong. Even a goal down, and having a goal disallowed City continued battling – as any good team would do when trying to avoid relegation. Mourinho's side were fiercely drilled and resilient and took their chances when it came to them. And that chance (second chance) came in the 65th minute after a dream substitution from our boss man, Giovani lo Celso beating Ederson with a low finish from another Kane pass (yes, Kane again) 35 seconds after coming on for Steven Bergwijn.

As for Mourinho; he was jumping here, there and everywhere… as if he had ants attacking his crotch. Not surprising as he watched his team take everything that City could throw at us.

Sitting at home we could hear Mourinho's voice echoing around our vast, empty stadium as he urged the players on (we even heard a few “fucks” here and there, but not for from Jose). He was shouting instructions as a man possessed, with regular demands of "press the ball".

As for Guardiola (maybe the swear words came from him?), he looked subdued and downcast, which is understandable. Humiliation hurts, humiliation from a better side hurts ten times more. Facing relegation, it would make one go into anaphylactic shock.

Of course, it is still early days for us (I say with a smile on my face and a twinkle in my eyes), but my bones and heart is wanting me to be more buoyant (but I don’t want to jinx it). But we are fuelled by a serial conqueror of a manager who looks revitalised after the acrimonious end to his spell at the inferior club af Manchester.

But to be fair, I am not surprised that teams are going to quake in their shoes at the prospect of facing us. We’ve got the likes of Son - who has now scored 11 goals in all competitions this season – and Kane. And let us not forget that Gareth Bale was sitting on the bench. Oh, and our midfield, defence and those not yet used. What a story, Morning Glory!

We are currently a compelling mix of strength and threat, which we proved by the way we tunnelled deep to keep the blue version of Manchester out before striking to toxic effect. In Kane,  we possess the complete forward at the very pinnacle of his game, a class act as a provider for the ninth time in as many league games this season.

Again another great result. I did notice that a lot of commentators/ pundits weren’t prepared to give us the credit we deserved and kept waffling on about Liverpool, Chelski and City best placed to win the Premier League (bollocks!). They said the same crap when Leicester City won it. The trouble is they’ve got it cemented in their brain that there is only Liverpool, City, Chelski and United that have the capability of winning the League or one of the European trophies (again, bollocks!). Every new season is a new beginning with all teams starting off equally together. Anything can happen in a season and often does.

Sadly a  late injury to Toby Alderweireld after an outstanding performance. Let us wish him well!

The stats

It is the first time since August 2014 that we will finish the day top of the Premier League and the first time we have done so after at least nine top-flight games since January 1985.

Twelve points from eight games is City's lowest points total at this stage of a Premier League season since 2008-09, while their 10 goals scored is their lowest after eight games since 2006-07.

We have won back-to-back league games against City for the first time since October 2016.

City have had 41 shots in their past two league games against us but have lost both without scoring.

We have scored more goals in the first half of Premier League games than any other side this season, with our 11 in the opening 45 minutes more than City have scored in the competition this season (10).

Son has scored five goals in five games in all competitions against City and his strike after four minutes 19 seconds was the earliest City have conceded in the league since December 2016, against Arsenal.

Kane has provided nine assists in his nine Premier League games this season, after delivering just eight assists in his previous three campaigns, or 94 games, combined.

So, there you have it. Liverpool face Leicester City on Sunday, so a draw would be good for us. However, if Liverpool should win, we stay at the top with a better goal difference (but both teams would be on 20pts). If Leicester should beat Liverpool, then they will go above us.

As for the rest of the teams, a gap is now opening up. What we’ve got to now worry about is ourselves. Not relegation-threatened teams like City, United, the Spammers, Arsewipes and the rest.

We host Ludogorets in the Europa League on Thursday (20:00). Then on Sunday, we face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. 4.30 kick-off.
