It was a hard-fought draw, however, I believe we could have won it. I
would have put Bale on with ten minutes to go, but, alas, it wasn't to be and I
ain't the manager. The positive is that we are back on top of the League and in
a stable position, and next week we've got the Gooners.
On a side note: Jose Mourinho says his side are a pony in a title horse
race when interviewed on TV. Looking on social media, some Spurs wits have come
out of the closet and have done twists on that theme. "We are not Cheetah's
but Penguins," or "we are the tortoise, not the Hare… and what
happened to the Hare, the bastard failed on the last inches of the race". The best one
yet, "we are not earthlings but Vulcans who use our logic over the
earthling saplings." Then there are the Russian comparisons; "we are
not Stalin, but the Churchillians and we are going to fuck the Russian bears
the arses". Colourful.
Just a matter of interest; we have won two league titles in our
history. They have famously come in years ending with a one - 1951 and 1961 -
as this season will be. I must say, even though I was only five years old, I
was taken to Tottenham by my dad then (on his shoulders, as he had often kept telling me).
As for 1951, well, I wasn't in existence then (probably in the Twilight
Zone).
Enough of this social media frivolity… back to the land of the living.
As I said, we returned to the top of the Premier League despite being
held by the Russian imitations in a spirited goalless London draw. I am sure all
the fans were looking forward to this game and expected more (like three
points)but I am sure, even though disappointing, we are happy not to lose or
concede a goal.
The way both teams played, I am sure that by the end of the season both
clubs will still be there fighting for the League Trophy (with Abramovich's
boys behind us, but in licking distance of our player's arses).
Their Edouard Mendy kept out our Serge Aurier's excellent shot while
Steven Bergwijn fired another Spurs chance over the bar.
Chelski were hoping to celebrate their motherland's brother-in-arms Roman Abramovich's 1,000th game as club owner
with victory over us, but we spoiled their party (oh, we laughed!).
As for the Blues, they struggled to carve out clear-cut chances
although Hugo Lloris produced a great late save to deny Mason Mount.
We are undefeated away in the League and only lost our opening home
game against Everton. So it is all looking good.
Of course, if we had won, we could have made a compelling title
declaration by following up our victory against Manchester City with another
success against Abramovho's compatriots. But we got the next best thing, a top
spot.
Though we failed to score for the first time since the opening weekend
of the season as Kane's wait for his 250th senior career goal continues.
But we must look on the bright side, apart from going top our young
Welsh kid, Rodon, slotted in nicely alongside Eric Dier in the centre of
defence. Yet his mistake almost let in Giroud for a late winner, but the
23-year-old did well to stop a Tammy Abraham headed chance in the first half.
Barring Leicester beating Fulham by a six-goal margin on Monday (but
not impossible, going by the way the cottagers are playing), we will head into
December looking down on the rest. Just like a king looking down on his
underlings.
The stats
We have won 13 points away from home in the Premier League this season
- our most in our opening five away games of a league campaign since 1991-92.
Chelsea and Spurs played out a goalless draw in the Premier League for
the first time since November 2015.
We have won just one of our past 35 away games against Chelsea in all
competitions (D12 L22), with that single victory coming in April 2018.
Spurs (9) and Chelsea (8) are now the two teams on the longest current
unbeaten runs in the Premier League.
We have kept a clean sheet in three consecutive away games in the
Premier League for the first time since November 2013.
This was the first Premier League game in which neither Harry Kane nor
Son have scored for us since September 27, ending a run of six consecutive
league games in which at least one of them had scored.
Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy has kept more clean sheets than any other
goalkeeper in the Premier League this season, with this being his fifth in six
appearances in the competition.
What is next for
us?
We are back in the Europa League. We go to Austria on Thursday (17:55
GMT) to take on LASK in Group J of the Europa League. After that, the fans are
allowed back into the Tottenham Stadium for our match against the Arsewipes
(Sunday).
Oh, didn't I mention? Wolves did well yesterday, they beat a lowly
little team called the Arsewipes or Gooner… 2-1. They are now 14th
in the League, with 13 points, 7 points behind the league leaders. And who do
the Gooners have next in the League? Let me think…
So that is it. I/ we were expecting a lot more, like an extra two
points, but we can't grumble, we were clinical and did what was necessary.
Until Thursday, take care, enjoy an stay safe.
COYS!
Glenn
