The game against Orient tonight is called off

Our game against Leyton Orient in the Carabao Cup, third-round tie, has been called off.

Our opponents had said that a number of their squad had tested positive for COVID-19, and therefore are unable to play against us. On top of all that – for Orient – their home stadium has been closed down for an unlimited time.

As for whether Orient will forfeit this game, which would mean that Spurs would automatically go through and progress to the fourth-round, is questionable. The Orient chairman wants the game rescheduled as the rules regarding forfeit only apply to the FA Cup and not any competition run by the EFL.

Whoever does go through to the fourth-round will face either Chelsea or Barnsley.

This postponement will give Mourinho’s team a much-needed break in a hectic schedule. However, if it does go ahead at a later date, all that this will mean is that another headache-schedule will be kicked down the road. 

This is all bad planning by the different football organisations. You’d have thought that they would have got together and worked something sensible out between them, but, oh, no… confusion, catastrophe and ostrich-like head in the sand attitude is their answer to anything taxing.

So, no match today (22^nd), but you won’t have to wait long for the next game, which will be on Thursday night in the Europa League (against Shkendija). Then... to add insult to injury (and injury being the operative word), we face Newcastle on Sunday in the Premier League.
