Club announce that Tottenham Hotspur have completed a deal for Alfie Devine, a midfielder
The transfer
window has been open for less than 48 hours and we have completed our first
signing; the 15-year-old Alfie Devine from Wigan Athletic. Wigan have also
confirmed that the transfer of their youngster has gone through.
The young
lad is rated very highly, having impressed for Wigan’s Under-18s this season,
particularly shining in the club’s FA Youth Cup run.
The
youngster, who has also impressed for England’s Under-16s, is thought of as one
of the most talented young midfield talents in his age group across the
country.
Both clubs haven’t
disclosed the transfer fee, but previous reports have implied that we will pay
around £500,000 deal for the teenager’s signature.
To be
honest, nobody is really surprised by his purchase as multiple reports suggested
last week that the deal was completed and it was only a matter of time before a
statement would be forthwith.
Alfie Devine
looks set to link up with our academy, and hopefully, it won’t be too long
before he is threatening to break into the first-team.
My thoughts
This could possibly
prove to be an astute procurement for us in the years to come, going by how
highly rated Devine seems to be. But how many times have we said that in the
past, only to find out we’ve purchased a donkey, but thought it was a young foal?
But, it is a bit like the lottery, you keep doing the numbers/ making gambles
in the hope you will hit the jackpot. In some cases Tottenham have, in others,
they’ve been pissing in the wind. And even if he turns out shit, so long as we
can make a profit on him… Daniel will be pleased. And from his perspective, he
at least can say – if he fails – that he graced the stage of the world-famous Tottenham
Hotspur Academy… and not a lot of people can say that… I certainly can’t. But I
do wish him all the best, as I do anybody joining our club.
Best Regards,
Glenn
