Hotspur Stadium picks up ‘prestigious’ award
Yes, our magnificent
Stadium has picked up a prestigious world’s best Stadium at the Stadium business
awards 2020. Daniel and Joe must be rubbing their hands in glee. I bet Chelsea
and Arsenal are a bit jealous (ok, a lot jealous). But to be fair most of the
stadiums in England/ Scotland are not up to scratch.
Our Stadium
was reportedly among hundreds of other stadiums from around the world nominated
for this year’s award and considering the quality of some other venues around
the globe it is some achievement.
After significant
consideration and debate, the venues were whittled down to a seven-strong
shortlist for the Venue of the year award, 2020.
The others
to make the shortlist were the Allianz Field in Minnesota, Chase Center in San
Francisco, Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai, Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, Lord’s
Cricket Ground in London, and the Optus Stadium in Perth. Quite impressive.
The panel of
experts that judged the venues decided on the shortlists and winners by
comparing them using metrics such as events, fan experience, innovation,
sustainability and technology, with our Stadium coming out on top. Hurray, drinks
all around Mr Levy and Lewis.
The
statement that was released by the wards committee read: “Since opening in
April 2019, the new, 62,000-capacity Tottenham Hotspur Stadium has set a new
benchmark for the fan experience in European football. The Populous-designed Venue
has a fully retractable playing surface, is the first purpose-built home for
the NFL in Europe and has been designed to deliver an outstanding matchday
atmosphere for both sports and entertainment.”
They continued
with, “With uninterrupted sightlines and spectators closer to the pitch than at
any comparable ground in the UK, the steep stands create a tighter, more
compact stadium bowl. Fan spaces include the five-storey atrium in the South
Stand with food stalls, a microbrewery and a 65-metre bar – the longest in
Europe. Whilst the facilities and fit-out are impressive in themselves; it is
the performance of the Venue as a business and as a fan destination that stands
out.”
