Pochettino has gone, Mourinho in.
Mauricio
Pochettino has gone and replaced with Mourinho, but was it really a surprise
that he got the sack? It has been on the cards for some time now. To me, the
daggers were out after the Liverpool Cup Final. After a brilliant performance
against the Ajax in the semi-finals, he then goes and bloody changes the team,
and we lose. Why? I believe that if he had kept the same team, we might have
had a better chance than we did. Then there were his stupid comments in the summer
break which didn’t help his situation. As for the league, his problems started
the previous season.
When
we have had a good performance he then goes and changes the team. Again, why? On
top of all that there has been unrest in the changing rooms; fights among
players, favouritism, drunkness etc. He had to go. Thanks for everything, but
he exceeded his sell-by date. Now we move on and start afresh.
So, we
have appointed Jose Mourinho as our new manager on a contract until the end of
the 2022-23 season following a whirlwind 48 hours. Potential exciting times
ahead.
Mourinho
will be on almost double the wage of his predecessor was on, at £15million.
Mourinho said: “I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage
and such passionate supporters.” Then added, “The quality in both the squad and
the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”
There
you have it. We have a new manager.
Pochettino
had a fair crack at the whip, but people had lost confidence in him. I know
there will be some mourning his death (so to speak), but the majority will show
their support for Mourinho and if he can win us trophies Pochettino’s spell will
disappear into our history quite quickly. Fans can be quite fickle at times. It
is about the now.
This
had obviously been planned a long time ago. The quickness in sacking Pochettino
and then replacing him within 12 hours tells you a lot.
Our
next game will be against West Ham away. After that game, we face Olympiacos FC,
and we need a win to go through to the next round. I don’t think anybody could
see us beating Bayern Munich after our 7-2 drubbing. Now there will be much
more optimism and hopefully consistency against our second game against Bayern.
I fancy, if not a win, then at least a draw.
Talking
to fellow supporters, I have noticed more buoyancy around, where there was only
despair and dread. In fact, some have even spoken about relegation.
Pochettino
was never interested in peripheral cups, Mourinho will be and could bring us
our first trophy as quickly as this season. Mourinho is the highest-profile
manager to take charge of our club, which might tell us something about Levy’s
ambitions. Levy has always seen the building of a new stadium as the first
phase of bringing back Tottenham’s Glory, Glory days. The appointment of
Mourinho might be the next phase. We shall have to wait and see, but at this
moment in time, I am feeling positive. Before that, gloom and depression, now we
can see more clearly…
Well,
you’ve got to be positive, haven’t you?
