Would you Adam & Eve it?

Spurs 2 Southampton 1

Would you Adam and Eve it? After a disastrous couple of games (Newcastle United, home, Olympiacos, Leicester City & Colchester City away) we finally arrived back at our stadium, hoping that we could end up where we left off from our last home game (against Palace). After 39 minutes it didn’t look like it was as we hoped it should be. We did score first, but then Aurier was sent off, then they equalised through Lloris’ mistake… as far as we were concerned, from that point in time, it was over. The mad run was going to continue… then.

Well, …let us first deal with Loris’ mistake. The France goalkeeper - and 2018 World Cup winner, no less - was inexplicably dispossessed inside his own six-yard area by Danny Ings for Saints' equaliser following a back pass. Pochettino came to his rescue and said, that he will shoulder the "blame" for Hugo Lloris' howler in 10-man Tottenham's 2-1 Premier League win over Southampton. "You don't need to blame Hugo, blame me because I demand him to play in that way," Pochetteino said. He then continued, "I don't want anyone to blame him; in this action, I want the blame because I demand him to do what he was doing." So that part of our error has been satisfactorily explained by the leader (no chastisement here). As for Aurier, that is a different matter.

After a disastrous week, as I said, spirits were momentarily lifted as our £53.8m club-record signing Tanguy Ndombele scored with a powerful deflected finish. That was it, we were continuing where we left off against Palace. Then misfortune struck (I am being kind here), Serge Aurier, who had already been booked, was sent off in the 32nd minute for a foul on Ryan Bertrand after Spurs felt the ball had gone out of play just before. Heads dropped at this point and we sunk into despair, but within five minutes of Ings' leveller, Harry Kane swept home what proved to be the winner after an assist by Christian Eriksen. From zero to elation within a blink of an eye… or a Kane goal. We were ecstatic.

We showed determination and resilience to keep the score 2-1, at the same time battling on to get another. Carry on the way we played on Saturday (minus the sending off), and we can get back on track in the blink of an eye (or a ball).
As for before, during and after the game; I arrived early. Lucky I did, as White Hart Lane was closed because there had been a fire there in the early hours of the morning, so I  took the next couple of junctions beyond that, and with a few turns here and there I was on the High Road. Then to my parking space.

Went to the Spurs shop, looked around and then waited until the doors opened at 12. Once they opened (and there is always a delay there), I made my way the Reception area and got my free programmes. Up the stairs and straight to the food bar for a drink and something to eat (magnificent small - and - I mean tiny - pie and a fish finger roll, it doesn’t getter any better than that).

Between the time of my arrival and the start of kick-off, several Spurs legends came to join us for a chat (Graham Robert, Martin Chivers, Paul Miller etc). Martin Chivers imparticular reminisced about his time at Tottenham, his forced transfer (to a Swiss side) and Bill Nickolson.  It was a great joy to talk to the great man. Paul Miller, another great player who has a lot to say and who is a fascinating person to talk to, In fact, they are all thought-provoking players and have some great memories to share.

As usual, the Tottenham Premium staff came over to talk to us, which is always a pleasure. After the game, we stayed and chatted until Tottenham shut up shop and we were all pointed in the direction of home, or wherever people went.
I got home at about 9.30 am. A very long day, considering I  had left at 8am.
What's next?

German champions Bayern Munich are in town on Tuesday as we look for our first Champions League Group B win (20:00 BS).

We can do it, we are better than we’ve shown up until now (putting Villa, City, Palace and Southampton to one side).

COYS!

See you on Tuesday (I’m not using a euphemism for the derogatory slang word here, I mean, see you on the 1st October). Get behind the team.
